Taken together, the cost of collection, recycling , and disposal of solid waste is one of the most costly of municipal services. And waste handling costs are increasing because of recycling mandates, tighter landfill standards, and unstable markets for recyclable materials. Thus, careful planning and implementation of solid waste management programs are high priorities for government and industry.

The bedrock of good planning includes many elements:

  • A defendable body of information on the current and projected waste quantity and composition.
  • An informed evaluation of practical waste handling operations.
  • A realistic assessment of costs and financing options.
  • An effective public communications program.

Look to SCS Engineers to provide the experience necessary for development of no-nonsense solid waste management plans and bid documents. Then, count on us for strong support during the permitting, design, and other implementation stages.

Established in 1970, SCS Engineers is a leading environmental consultant, particularly in the field of solid waste management.

SCS has conducted more than 120 comprehensive waste characterization studies, including a 1972 study that was one of the first of its kind in the world, and a more recent study in New York City which was the world's largest and one of the most complex. SCS has prepared regional solid waste management master plans and related studies throughout North America. We are often called on to conduct even more detailed assignments such as comparing public and private collection options, then assisting with the orderly implementation of the selected option. Our reputation has led to solid waste consulting assignments in over 500 North American locations and in many other countries, including Argentina, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Albania, Taiwan, and Australia.

Our professional staff understands basic client needs and constraints from experience gained on more than 2,000 solid waste assignments, and through prior experience as employees of municipal refuse departments and private refuse haulers. SCS assignments begin with a thorough definition of project objectives and methods. In short, we listen to our client's specific requirements and strive to be your problem-solving partner.

SCS offers comprehensive solid waste planning services to assist you in achieving your goals in solid waste management.
