Design-Build, Operation, and Financing of Energy Systems Typical Tasks Performed:
One example of SCS’ turnkey capabilities is the 300 kW LFG-fired microturbine installation at the Jamacha Landfill in San Diego, California. The facility includes a custom-designed LFG compression and pretreatment unit, four 75 kW Ingersol-Rand microturbines, and associated controls and electrical equipment. The Jamacha project, the first of its kind, was brought on line within 120 days of notice-to-proceed. SCS Energy assisted the owner in (a) obtaining a state demonstration grant and Federal Power production incentives; (b) negotiating a power purchase agreement; (c) preparing applications for and securing air emission permits; and (d) satisfying the interconnection requirements of the utility, the buyer of the electricity. The Jamacha project commenced commercial operation in June 2001. SCS is also consulting on the implementation of several LFG-to-energy projects in Asia and the Asia-Pacific Region, including a 50-MW plant in Korea, a 3-MW plant in Thailand, a 2-MW facility in China, and several plants in Australia that range in size from 0.7 to 1.5 MW. SCS Energy custom designs and installs hardware and software to configure project-specific supervisory, data acquisition, and control (SCADA) systems for distributed energy and environmental projects. SCS Energy’s SCADA systems allow off-site monitoring and control through the Internet, using a conventional PC via dial-up or high-speed connection. |
