SCS Energy custom designs and installs hardware and software to configure project-specific Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for distributed energy and environmental projects. SCS Energy's SCADA systems allow off-site monitoring and control, through the internet, using a conventional PC, via dial-up or high speed connection. The following are examples of SCADA systems deployed in environmental project applications. All of SCS Energy's design/construct energy projects employ SCS Energy SCADA systems.

Landfill Control SCADA System
Microturbine Power Plant, Thermal Oxidizer,
and Leachate Treatment Plant
|

|
This
project includes the design and installation of an
integrated electronic control system in support of
a 420 kW microturbine power plant and the
associated fuel pre-treatment system.
Additionally, the control system incorporated
existing site operations, including a 6,000 scfm
thermal oxidizer, a 20,000 GPD leachate plant, and a
remote booster blower station.
A
wired and wireless Ethernet network is utilized to
communicate with a variety of PLCs and controllers
to a central server. A site-specific HMI
interface was developed using Wonderware Software
Tools. A data server uses Industrial SQL to
compress and supply data to a Microsoft SQL
database. Custom trends and status reports
are made available locally and remotely through
Active Factory. The alarm system uses SCADA
Alarm for custom dial-out messages and e-mail
notification.

Steam
Enhanced Vapor Extraction and Treatment System
|
This
project includes the design and installation of an
integrated electronic control system in support of
a 25,000 scfm steam enhanced vapor extraction and
treatment system. The control system
incorporated Allen Bradley PLC technology and a
Wonderware Human Machine Interface with access and
logging of over 350 interface points.
The
PLC communicates over an Ethernet network to site
specific HMI interface developed using the
Wonderware Software Tools. The data server
utilizes a Microsoft SQL database with Industrial
SQL compression software to record data at a
100-millisecond resolution. Custom trends and
status reports are made available locally and
remotely through Active Factory. The alarm
system uses SCADA Alarm for custom dial-out
messages and e-mail notification.

Landfill SCADA System
Blower/Flare
Stations, Gas Cooler, Condensate Incineration
System
|
|
This
project involved the integration of multiple
existing LFG operations in support of a new power
plant. Operations included three flare stations,
gas cooler equipment, 6 MW power plant,
and a condensate treatment system. The project
required communication between multiple PLCs
including Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc, and PLC Direct.
The
PLCs communicate over an Ethernet network to a
site- specific Human Machine Interface (HMI)
interface developed using Wonderware Software
Tools. The data server utilizes a Microsoft SQL
database with Industrial SQL compression software
to record data. Custom trends and status reports
are made available locally and remotely through

San
Diego County SCADA System
Blower/Flare Stations, Condensate Injection
Systems, and Microturbine Power Plant
|
|
This
project involved the integration of ten existing
LFG blower/flare stations in support of a web
based user interface. The sites all had LFG
flares installed, while a single site also had four LFG fired
microturbines. The
project required communication between the remote
sites and a central office server where data is
warehoused, processed for reporting, and posted to
a secure website.
Sites
with obsolete hardware were retrofitted with a PLC
controller, and a data acquisition and management
system was installed at each site. The
PLC’s communicated with the DAMS which collected
data, then forwarded the data to the central
server via an internet VPN tunnel. Key
features of the DAMS were its fault tolerant
properties and its auto recovery feature.
The system can recover from a power or
communications outage with a minimal loss of data.
